A small, purple skinned guava relative having round fruits to 1-1 1/4". Fruits look a bit like the strawberry guava but have much darker, more purple skin. Pulp is translucent yellow, with an acidic flavor.
Description: A small tree or shrub growing to 7-15 feet. Flowering generally occurs during August and September in its native range. Fruits ripen 1-3 months later.

Uses: Fruits are eaten fresh out of hand. They are picked wild and not cultivated.
Native Range: Native to higher altitude forests of Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo, Brazil.
