A rare Eugenia of the Southern Brazilian rainforests, bearing a small, dark-purple ripening fruit with a mildly sweet and firm pulp.
A shrubby tree growing to 10-12ft. Flowers are born in large clusters, with fruits ripening several weeks later. There are both purple and red fruited forms.
Reportedly hardy to 28-30F, possibly lower.
Grow in full sun or part shade. Water regularly.
Extremely rare, both in cultivation and in nature. The fruit is edible and the tree makes an attractive ornamental edible specimen.
Native to some areas of the Southern Brazilian rain forest region.
