An attractive orange-yellow skinned fruit with a pear shape, growing to 1-2". The fruits are quite aromatic and have a sweet but tart flavor.
Description: A medium sized, shrubby tree to 20-40 feet. When crushed, the leaves have an aromatic odor. In its native range, flowering occurs between August and December, with fruits ripening shortly thereafter, in 1-2 months.
Hardiness: Unknown.
Growing Environment: Would seem to thrive in a humid, tropical environment. Water regularly, grow in well drained soil.
Propagation: By seeds. The seeds should not be allowed to fully dry when removed from the fruit. They can be slow to germinate, sometimes taking up to a few months germination time.
Uses: Fruits are eaten fresh and popularly processed into juices. The uvalha is cultivated on a small scale in its native range but is virtually unknown elsewhere.
Native Range: Native to Brazil. Found at elevations of 1000-5000 feet in its natural habitat.
