A rare Eugenia of the Southern Brazilian rainforests, bearing a small, dark-purple ripening fruit with a mildly sweet and firm pulp.
Description: A shrubby tree growing to 10-12ft. Flowers are born in large clusters, with fruits ripening several weeks later. There are both purple and red fruited forms.
Hardiness: Reportedly hardy to 28-30F, possibly lower.
Growing Environment: Grow in full sun or part shade. Water regularly.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: Extremely rare, both in cultivation and in nature. The fruit is edible and the tree makes an attractive ornamental edible specimen.
Native Range: Native to some areas of the Southern Brazilian rain forest region.
