Large, crunchy fruit similar to the malay apple. Well flavored, although having a subtle sweet taste. Fruits are esteemed in parts of the South Pacific.
Description: Small, fairly fast-growing tree to 10-15ft.
Hardiness: The giant lau-lau grows well in tropical climates, but seems to have some cold hardiness. A number of seedlings we have grown have survived temperatures to about 40F.

Growing Environment: Trees grow well in shade or part-shade, and like moderate to heavy water as well as high humidity.
Propagation: By seed, which lose their viability rapidly.

Uses: Fruits are eaten raw and sometime chilled before serving.
Native Range: Native to Papua New Guinea and some South Pacific islands. Is grown throughout the South Pacific for its fruit.
