Large sized guava relative with bright yellow fruit having an excellent sour-acid flavor. Fruits are very juicy, up to five inches wide, with a strong fruity aroma.
Description: Shrub or small tree to 7-15ft.
Hardiness: Will stand some cold temperatures for short periods of time.
Growing Environment: Minimal information is available. It prefers a drier, tropical environment.
Propagation: By seeds, air-layering, grafting or budding.
Uses: Sometimes eaten fresh, out of hand, although the fruits are quite acidic. The araca-boi is more commonly used to flavor ice creams, sweets, and beverages. It is very high in vitamin C, double the amount of the average orange.
Native Range: Native to non-flooding areas of Western Amazonia, Brazil. Efforts are currently underway in parts of South America to cultivate this species.
