Produces large, woody, urn-shaped capsules, up to 10" in diameter, which open with a distinct lid to release highly prized nuts. The large, kidney-shaped nuts have a hard, dark-brown shell and a rich, creamy, buttery white kernel, often described as superior to Brazil nuts and enjoyed raw, roasted, or in confectionery. The unique, empty woody capsules are often collected and used as decorative bowls. A majestic evergreen tree, it can reach heights of 30-50 m / 100-160 ft with a broad, spreading canopy. Thrives in warm, humid tropical lowland rainforests. Not frost tolerant. Seeds are fresh, cannot be stored and should be planted on receipt. #5691
