Large tropical tree bearing several inch long black podded fruit with edible seeds and pulp.
Description: Large tropical rainforest tree to 100+ft. Yellow flowers are ornamental
and the tree is sometimes grown in cities for this purpose.
Hardiness: Unknown.
Growing Environment: Grows well
in full sun, also does well in cooler tropical conditions (50-75F).
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: Seeds and pulp are edible. The pods are a popular vegetable in parts of southeast Asia. Seeds can be crushed, boiled and used to treat stomach and abdominal pain.
Native Range: Native from northeast India through Indonesia.
