Candle Bush
Senna alata
a.k.a. Christmas Candle, Emperor's Candlesticks  

Subtropical bush with ornate yellow blooms through most of the year.

Description: Small subtropical bush, usually only to 4-6ft, but can grow to 10ft. Often takes on a spreading growth habit to several feet. Blooms pretty much the whole year, yellow flowers are followed by brown pod fruit. Flowers attract butterflies.

Hardiness: Hardy to the 20's (F).

Growing Environment: The Candle Bush is a fairly hardy plant (in hospitable environments). Will take drought. Grows well in full sun. Not picky about soil type.

Propagation: By seeds.

Uses: Grown as an ornamental for its pretty yellow flowers. Plant was traditionally used for a variety of medicinal purposes.

Native Range: Native to India.
