A little known citrus having tangerine-like fruits with a typically sweet orange-like flavor. The fruits are tasty out of hand. The tree is also famously known for its roots, which some claim as an herbal alternative to Viagra.
Description: A medium sized evergreen tree, with the typical appearance of a citrus, growing to 15-30ft. Has glossy green foliage and scented white flowers which are followed by the small tangerine-sized orange ripening fruits.
Hardiness: Hardy to some frost.
Growing Environment: Grow like any citrus. Water regularly. Grow in well-drained, rich, moist soil. Grow in full sun.
Propagation: By grafts and seeds. Seeds can be slow to germinate and should come relatively true to their parent. This tree is found wild and rarely cultivated.
Uses: Fruits can be eaten raw out of hand. The roots of this tree are used to treat impotence and have unfortunately led to the demise of many wild populations of this uncommon tree. Medically efficacy regarding its use is unclear.
Native Range: Native from Uganda, through Nigera, Angola, the Congo and Mozambique.
