Monkey Jackfruit

Artocarpus rigidus

Medium sized fruit (3-4"), with yellow-orange, mildly spiny skin. Pulp is orange, sub-acid, and lacking odor, unlike most other Artocarpus species.

Uses

Eaten fresh.

Plant Cultivation

Very large tree, over 100ft when mature. Little cultural information is available, although the tree is supposedly a bit hardier than the common jackfruit, and can be used as a rootstock for the jackfruit.
Propagation: By seed. Seeds must be planted immediately upon harvest.

Origin and Distribution

Native to Burma, Malaysia, (peninsular and Borneo), and Indonesia (Sumatra, Java). The tree is cultivated in parts of Southeast Asia.
