| Solanum macrocarpon |

A rare African eggplant relative with young leaves cooked much like collard greens.
Description: A short perennial or annual to 2-4ft. Large green leaves shade the golf ball sized yellow ripening fruits that have a bitter taste. A very ornamental plant, both for leaves but also for its large flowers and pretty fruits.
Hardiness: Unknown. Probably not frost hardy, but can be grown anywhere as an annual.
Growing Environment: Does well in places eggplants do well. Grow in full sun, water moderately. Not too picky about soil type.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: The young leaves were once a popular food in parts of West Africa. The plant is now very difficult to find but makes a worthy and interesting garden specimen.
Native Range: Native to Togo.
