Coast Spice Bush

Cneoridium dumosum

Small berry sized fruit growing on a tiny shrub like plant. Berries and foliage have a spicy smell and berries are supposedly edible and were once used as a spice.

Uses

Berries are supposedly edible, although caution should be taken to avoid the foilage as it can cause rashes in some people.

Plant Cultivation

Very short (2-6ft) shrubby bush growing well in arid climates. Needs little water and will survive freezes. Grow in full sun, will also survive well in very hot climates. Flowers are small, similar to citrus flowers and have a nice scent.
Propagation: By seed.

Origin and Distribution

Native to coastal Southern California near San Diego and south to Baja California, Mexico.
