Cannibal's Tomato

Solanum uporo

Bright red fruit much like the tomato, used in sauces and flavorings like the tomato.

Uses

Uses are similar to common tomato. Leaves are eaten as salad greens. In Fiji, legend has it that among cannibal tribes, the cannibal's tomato was regarded as the perfect sauce for the consumption of human flesh, but we're not about to test this out.

Plant Cultivation

Small shrub similar to the common tomato, can be grown as an annual or perennial. Climate requirements are probably similar to most Solanum annuals.
Propagation: By seed.

Origin and Distribution

Native to the South Pacific Fijian islands.
