An attractive palm from Madagascar that while now rare in its native range, has become a popular ornamental throughout the world. Instantly recognizable for its triangular shaped trunk.
Description: A medium sized palm tree growing to 25 feet. Features huge leaves that grow to many feet long. The foliage is ornamental as well, with strong blue-green tones.
Hardiness: Hardy to 28-32F.
Growing Environment: Grow in full sun. Water regularly during warm seasons.
Propagation: By seeds. The seeds are fairly slow to germinate and under ideal conditions average 2-3 months germination time.
Uses: A popular ornamental in tropical and subtropical regions.
Native Range: Madagascar. The species is now rare due to destruction of its habitat as well as over collection of seeds.
