Jussara Palm 
Euterpe edulis

A slightly lesser known acai palm having round, deep purple colored fruits to about 1/2". The fruits are fairly similar to the more common acai palm and this species is popular for its edible palm heart.

Description: A medium sized palm growing to 15-30 feet. Like other Euterpe palms, it features a large green crownshaft as well as huge leaves.

Hardiness: Unknown.

Growing Environment: Thrives in a humid, tropical environment Needs regular watering. Grow in full sun.

Propagation: By seeds.

Uses: The fruits are eaten fresh and can be used much like the acai. The crownshaft is also harvested and sold as palm heart.

Native Range: Native to the Atlantic forest regions of Brazil.
