| Forest Acai | |
| Euterpe precatoria |
A wild, forest acai palm with small, 1/2" purple fruits that have light mottling. The fruits are edible and can be used much like the regular acai fruits.
Description: A tall palm tree growing to 20-60 feet. Has a long, visible green crownshaft and huge leaves that grow to several feet long.
Hardiness: Unknown.
Growing Environment: Grows well in humid, tropical climates. Would seem to prefer regular watering as it naturally grows near rivers and in flood plains.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: The fruits are quite tasty fresh and are popularly processed into a type of juice.
Native Range: Native to Brazil, locally Amazonas, Para, Acre, and Rondonia. The tree is rarely, if ever cultivated, but fruits are gathered from wild specimens.
