An interesting Garcinia, mainly used as an ornamental for its interesting, glossy foliage and colorful fruits. The orange-yellow fruits are bitter, tart and probably not edible. The fruits are however, extremely popular with tropical birds.
Description: Medium sized tree growing up to 30ft. Features thick, slender, glossy and ornamental leaves. Very slow growing.
Hardiness: Exact hardiness unknown, but probably to around 32F and not much lower.
Growing Environment: Grows well in full or filtered sun. Tolerant of salty conditions and ocean spray. Water regularly for best growth. The tree is very adaptable to container culture.
Propagation: By seeds. The seeds are fairly large in size, and easy, but slow to germinate.
Uses: The tree is most commonly planted as an ornamental, particularly in salt-spray prone areas.
Native Range: Native to India.
