A stately queen palm grown both for its ornamental value as well as for its edible fruits and palm heart.
Description: A medium to large palm, growing up to 60 feet tall. The fruits grow to 2" and ripen to green-yellow. They have fibrous pulp with a sweet flavor.
Hardiness: Hardy to 28-40F
Growing Environment: Grows nicely in both tropical and subtropical climates. Adaptable to moist and arid climates. Grow in full sun.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: Very popular as an ornamental in Brazil. The fruits and seeds (nuts) are both edible. The species is also grown for its palm heart, which has a somewhat bitter flavor.
Native Range: Native to Brazil.
