Satin Leaf Tree

Chrysophyllum oliviforme

 

Small, berry-sized fruit mildly resembling an olive. Skin is purple, with purple-white, sweetish flesh.

Uses

Fruits are edible and eaten fresh, although the tree is usually grown as an ornamental, for is golden colored leaves. Wood is used for construction and furniture.

Plant Cultivation

A medium to large sized tree from 12-30ft. It is hardier than the star apple, and will survive brief frosts. Flowering occurs from July to October, with fruits ripening in February.
Propagation: Usually by seeds.

Origin and Distribution

Native to South Florida, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and a number of Carribean islands.
