Small, berry-sized fruit mildly resembling an olive. Skin is purple, with purple-white, sweetish flesh.
Description: A medium to large sized tree from 12-30ft. Flowering occurs from
July to October, with fruits ripening in February.
Hardiness: It is hardier than the
star apple, and will survive brief frosts.
Growing Environment: Not available.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: Fruits are edible and eaten fresh, although the tree is usually grown as an ornamental, for is golden colored leaves. Wood is used for construction and furniture.
Native Range: Native to South Florida, Cuba, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas and a number of Carribean islands.
