Rukam 
Flacourtia rukam

A lesser known fruit of the Flacourtia's, having an acid sweet, though somewhat astringent flavor. The fruits are small, round, about 1" in diameter and ripen to dark purple. They are quite similar in appearance to the louvi.

Description: A small to medium sized tree growing to 15-45 feet. Fruits form in small clusters and generally contain from 4-8 seeds. Fruits ripen in 3 1/2 months from flowers. Branches contain spines. The species features the largest leaves of the Flacourtia's.

Hardiness: Unknown, but possibly mild frost tolerance.

Growing Environment: A tough tree once established. Reportedly has some drought tolerance and may have very mild frost tolerance.

Propagation: By seeds.

Uses: Fruits can be eaten fresh.

Native Range: Native to southeast Asia and the Philippines.
