| Poshe-te | |
| Annona scleroderma | |
| a.k.a. Cawesh, Wild Red Custard Apple |
An uncommon Annona with a creamy banana-pineapple like flavor. Said to be one of the most flavorful and refreshing Annona's, but the poshe-te is still elusive outside its native range.
Description: Trees are very large, up to 50+ft tall. Flowering
occurs from previous years' growth, fruting lasts from December to April.
Hardiness: Unknown.
Growing Environment: Unstudied.
Propagation: Usually by seed, which sprout in about a month if
fresh. If stored for several months, seeds may take up to six months
to sprout. Trees produce after about four years from seed.
Uses: Eaten fresh. The poshe-te is an unremarkable fruit in appearance. Unlike some other Annona's, the pulp is not fibrous. Many fruits tend to be quite seedy. The skin is usually quite tough.
Native Range: Native to the Atlantic slope of Southern Mexico, Guatemala, Belize and Honduras. Occasionally cultivated in Guatemala.
