An ultra-rare forest rambutan bearing small red fruits with soft, fish hook-like spines. The fruits are sweet and quite tasty with much similarity to the rambutan.
Description: A fairly large, forest tree growing up to 100+ feet tall. Fast-growing. The fruits are small and round, growing to about 3/4". Flesh is soft, white, and similar to the more common rambutan.
Hardiness: Unknown.
Growing Environment: Flourishes in a humid, tropical environment. Fruiting seems to be encouraged with alternating wet and dry periods.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: The fruits are eaten fresh. The tree is extremely rare in cultivation.
Native Range: Native to the lowland forest regions of Borneo, peninsular Malaysia and Sumatra.
