A rare Amazonian forest sapote, similar to the Abiu. The yellow fruits grow to a couple of inches, with translucent white flesh.
Description: A semi-deciduous tree to 20-40ft. The long leaves grow to 8-10". The fruits, while similar to the abiu, tend to be more rounded.
Hardiness: Reportedly hardier than the abiu, and able to survive short frosts to 25-27F.
Growing Environment: Needs a moist, relatively warm climate to flourish. Grow in well-drained soil, irrigate frequently.
Propagation: By seeds, which generally take 1-3 months to germinate.
Uses: Fruits are edible and eaten in the species home range. The tree is rarely if ever cultivated and extremely rare in collections.
Native Range: Native to the Amazon region of Brazil.
