South American tree known for its strongly scented bark.
Description: Medium sized tree to 40-50ft.
Hardiness: Hardy to about 15-20F.
Growing Environment: Grows quite well in subtropical and near subtropical, cool environments. Enjoys well-drained soil, and will grow well in both sun and part-shade.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: The bark is quite aromatic and used as a spice (generally a pepper substitute), but also in teas, and a variety of medical applications. The flowers are scented like jasmine.
Native Range: Native to Argentina and Chile.
