Indian Jujube

Zizyphus mauritiana

Small, 1" fruit with orange-brown skin. Ripe fruits are said to taste like a green apple, while over-ripe fruits taste like a date.

Uses

Eaten fresh.

Plant Cultivation

Small or medium sized subtropical tree, can grow up to 40ft. Can survive temperatures to the mid 20's when mature. Trees are covered in prominent spines. May have two crops per year. The Indian Jujube is better adapted to tropical zones than the common jujube.
Propagation: By seed, which takes 2-3 years to begin producing, or by grafting and air-layering.

Origin and Distribution

Native to tropical Asia.
