Uses

Some species are edible. Planted as an ornamental for its tropical look, and colorful fruits.

Plant Cultivation

Description: Small tree with drooping, glossy, green leaves. Fruits are born in great abundance and are colorfully, changing from green to pink, red, then dark purple upon ripening.
Growing Environment: Exact cultural requirements are unknown, but the tree does quite well in warm, tropical and subtropical climates.
Hardiness: Unknown, but at least 32F.
Propagation: By seed.

Origin and Distribution
Native Range: Native to a number of Caribbean islands.
Local Adaptation: Plants succeed well, with little care in south Florida.
