Davidson's Plum

Davidsonia pruriens

Medium sized, dark purple fruit, very similar in appearance to a plum. The Davidson's Plum is unrelated to the common plum, but has a nice acid taste in its own right.

Description

Medium sized tree to about 30ft. Trees are slender, with huge ornamental leaves. Flowers are borne in stocks off of the trunk, followed by large clusters of fruits (often a hundred or more in a cluster).

Hardiness

Hardy to at least 32F.

Growing Environment

Plants need moderate water and seem to grow well in subtropical climates.

Propagation

By seeds.

Uses

Fruits can be eaten fresh, but they are most commonly used to make jams and wines.

Native Range

Native to rainforest regions of Australia.
