A spiky bromeliad relative to the sapphire towers. This amazing plant has almost black flowers, born on long stalks. The flowers are not as closely packed on stalks as the sapphire tower and a single plant may produce many stalks in a single season.
Description: A spiky leaved bromeliad with fronds that are gray-silver tinged. Grows to 2-4ft, with tall stalks that can reach 6-10ft.
Hardiness: Hardy to the mid 20's (F).

Growing Environment: Grow in full sun. Plants are drought tolerant. Can be container grown.
Propagation: By seeds which may take several weeks to a few months to sprout.
Uses: Grown as an exotic ornamental for its strange appearance and beautiful flowers.
Native Range: Native to Chile.
