Similar to the cashew apple, the caja acu is juicy false fruit with a slight strawberry flavor. Nuts can be roasted and taste like cashew nuts.
Description: Very large tropical tree up to 150ft. Tree may be resistant to anthracnose.
Propagation: By seed.
Uses: Fruit is eaten fresh, nut is roasted and eaten. A drink is also produced from the apples.
Native Range: Native to the Amazon region, and the Guianas. Fruits are sometimes available in local markets.
