| Alupag | |
| Dimocarpus didyma |
The rare Alupag bears longan-like fruits with noticeable warts on the skin. Flesh is very tasty, like the longan, with a fairly large seed. The fruit is appreciated in its native range, but generally put aside for its better known and highly selected relatives, the lychee and longan.
Description: An evergreen tree to 50-75ft.
Hardiness: Unknown, probably to about 32F.
Growing Environment: Unstudied. Would seem to thrive in tropical environments.
Propagation: By seeds, which remain viable for only a short period upon removal from the fruit. Alupag is sometimes grafted onto longan and vice versa.
Uses: Fruits are eaten fresh. Trees are cut for lumber and furniture.
Native Range: Native to southeast Asia, with concentrations in the Philippines and Indonesia.
