A famous squash from the East Coast named for its resemblance to a wheel of cheese. The large, flattened fruits look a lot like pumpkins, but with burnt orange skin. The sweet flavored flesh is deep orange and the fruits are traditionally used in making pies. They also store off of the vine quite well. The fruits are known for their smooth flesh, general lack of stringiness, and for some flavor similarities to the butternut squash.
Maturity: 90-105 days.
Origin: Originally from the East coast of the United States centered around the Long Island, New York and New Jersey areas. This variety was offered as far back as the early 1800's (and possibly even before) by seed sellers and farmers in the area.
