It is an interesting and resilient tree, popular as an ornamental for its tolerance to salinity and sandy soils. The wood is harvested for woodworking, and has a long history of use in Polynesian cultures. An attractive tree for its yellow and orange flowers which casually resemble their cousin, the hibiscus. Common in Hawaii and the South Pacific, but found worldwide. Not tolerant of freezing temperatures. Grows to 15-30 ft / 5 - 10 m. #231
