The trail begins among a small field of the low-lying Cleveland Sage (Salvia clevelandii). |
| Much of the Cleveland Sage (sometimes called Chapparal Sage) population has interbred with other Salvia species, but all are known for their beautifully fragrant foliage which can be used in cooking, much like standard sage. Plants produce winged, purple flowers in the spring, and fields of blooming sage are certainly a sight to both see and smell. | ![]() |
