A rare papaya relative native to the Andes mountains. The 6-8" yellow-orange fruits reportedly have a nice flavor resembling an apple. Fruits are known to be quite variable.
Description: A large herbaceous perennial to 10-20ft.
Hardiness: Unknown, possibly hardy to some frost.
Growing Environment: Unstudied, but would appear to do well in humid, moderately warm climates.
Propagation: By seeds.
Uses: Fruits can be eaten fresh or used to make jams and jellies.
Native Range: Native to Columbia and Ecuador.
